A Regional Bank

Improving a Remote Branch Network

The challenges:

A local regional bank had a frame relay network in place that was no longer meeting the needs of the user community.   The regional bank was also operating a parallel ATM network with individual connections back to the ATM processing center.

As a new loan application was installed on the network, teller and branch PC’s began to run poorly.  To make matters worse the branch offices were completely off-line whenever a Frame Relay circuit would fail, two of the branches had persistent circuit problems.

The bank wanted its branch managers and loan officers to have Internet connectivity provided through the network and the bank wanted to introduce email to the remote branch workforce.

The bank had two IT people back at their datacenter who were spending increasing amounts of their time to simply keep the data network running.
